Mr. Mike Matteson was born in Montclair, NJ, a suburb of New York City. At the age of 6 he moved to New Hampshire where he lived until the age of 12. At the age of 12 his family moved to Douglasville and that has been his home ever since. He graduated from Lithia Springs High School and went off to Georgia Tech with the intent of becoming an electrical engineer. After 2 years he transferred to Lagrange College. In 1989 he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lagrange College with a B.A. in Mathematics and minors in Psychology and Secondary Education. He began his teaching career in 1995 at Water of Life Christian Academy and in 1998 was part of the group of teachers that helped start Heirway Christian Academy. Mr Matteson is a member of Douglasville First United Methodist Church where he enjoys singing in the choir and has spent over 20 years working with their youth group. His hobbies include reading, singing, and coaching volleyball. He considers it a blessing to come to work every day at Heirway and having the opportunity to speak life into the lives of his students.
